A Guide to Building a Wood Chaise Lounger

A chaise lounge is a versatile, movable piece of furniture that can be used as a bench, a chair, or a lounger for a summer snooze. With the help of common supplies and tools, anyone can build one in a weekend.

Construct a base frame that is 7 feet long and 27 inches wide. Make use of two deck screws at each corner. Make sure to countersink them a bit so they can be capped with a wood button, or covered by filler. Next, build two deck supports using two 2-by-4s that is about 30 inches long. For the head section, you will need another set of two 24-inch long 2-by-4s.

Next, attach the 14-inch long 2-by-4 wood pieces on the inside of the base frame. This should be about 18 inches in from one end of the frame. About 6 inches should form legs below the bottom edge of the frame, while another 3 1/2 inches should stick up above the frame as an anchor for the entire deck.

Finally, build the wheels by rounding the 2-by-8-by-8 inch squares to circles. You would also need to place 2-by-6-by-8-inch axle supports on the insides.
